You hate yourself.

I remember growing up with someone who achieved great success.

Looking back, I recall how sensitive they were to jokes or comments about their physical appearance.

At the time, I thought they were overreacting and would dismiss their reactions.

In my environment, self-deprecating jokes were common.

People would say things like “I’m so stupid” or “I hate myself” without thinking much of it.

I adopted this habit of negative self-talk as well.

However, the person who didn’t tolerate those kinds of jokes had something I didn’t have — self-awareness.

They were building boundaries and protecting their self-esteem, which allowed them to truly love and appreciate themselves.

They knew their worth and wouldn’t let anyone’s joke bring them down.

On the other hand, the people who engaged in self-deprecating humor were hindering their progress by building a scarcity mindset.
