While many writers rely on premium grammar-checking tools like Grammarly, their cost can be a barrier.

Today, I found a technique for leveraging the strengths of both Grammarly and large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to achieve high-quality writing without incurring premium subscription fees.

The process hinges on the valuable yet limited capabilities of the free version of Grammarly.

While it offers basic suggestions and scoring, specific issues requiring advanced functionalities remain hidden behind the paywall.

However, Grammarly often subtly hints at these issues by category, such as “punctuation in complex sentences” or “wordy sentences.”

This is where ChatGPT or Gemini enters the scene.

By providing ChatGPT with the specific issues identified by Grammarly (along with the text itself), we can harness its rewriting capabilities to address those areas.

In the described experiment, the author used ChatGPT to specifically target the identified issues of punctuation, sentence structure, and word choice.

The results were impressive. The text rewritten by ChatGPT achieved a significantly higher score (94) on Grammarly compared to the initial version (77).
