I had the chance to visit Japan in 2019, a country I adore for its welcoming energy. The busy streets of Tokyo, the serene beauty of Kyoto, and the delicious food were everything I had imagined and more. Japan is the place for me to truly tap into relaxation and forget about “reality”, but one unexpected encounter turned my trip into something I would never forget.

It happened in a small alleyway in Kyoto. I was wandering around, soaking in the charm of the traditional houses and the faint scent of incense in the air. That’s when I noticed a tiny shop with a faded sign reading “Fortune Teller.” I had never believed in fortune-telling. It always seemed like a gimmick to me, but something about the moment made me curious. I decided to try it, just for fun.

The fortune teller was an older woman with a warm smile and piercing eyes. She was quite petite, and she looked approachable enough for me to greet her with a smile too. She invited me to sit and asked me to focus on a question or a thought. I hesitated, feeling silly, but I asked her something deeply personal, a question only someone who truly knew me could answer. When she spoke, her words hit me with surprise. She answered correctly, describing details about my life and personality that she couldn’t have possibly known. I felt my heart race — part shock, part fear. How could she know that? Was it luck, intuition, or something more?

As I sat there, trying to process what had just happened, she offered to read my zodiac chart. This…
